The Shelter Home is a state licensed, private, non-profit organization providing emergency shelter in a clean, safe, secure and morally responsible homelike environment, for up to 28 Horry County abused, abandoned, or neglected children, (12 boys and 16 girls), aged birth to 17 years old, placed into foster care by the Department of Social Services.

12 to 18 children that come to stay in the Horry County Shelter Home will be hospitalized with mental health needs each year.
27% of the children will go back home to their families.
30% of the children move in with a relative.
43% of the children will move to a group home or into foster care.
The shelter serves 250 children in a calendar year.
Average length of stay is 20 days.
Average age of youth is 10 1/2 years old.
On average, there are 14 children in each house.
Total number of youth served since inception (1973) is 4,298 children.
